Robert Sternberg, a renowned American psychologist, presented a theory of love according to which there are three main components of love–commitment, passion and intimacy. The strong physical connection couples feel for each other comes under passion while sharing strong psychological comfort and personal notions is defined by intimacy and determination of living together is a promise. It is easy to find passion in a relation’s initial stage which many call the honeymoon stage. Having said that, developing intimacy takes a longer duration in view of the fact that it depends on how well know your partner and when it is established, the concerned couple can make up mind of being in a relationship.
We know for a fact that the presence of each of the components–passion, intimacy and commitment is necessary for a healthy relationship but not every relation has all of them. If we get down to specify the categories of love, then surely we would know better what kind of story is ours.
